What is your involvement in FFA? In FFA, the contests I participate in are the extemporaneous speaking Leadership Development Event, where I placed silver in state, and the crops Career Development Event. I also participate in various events such as corn drive, ag Olympics, community service projects and many more. I am currently serving as our chapter’s student advisor.
What has FFA taught you so far? FFA has taught me the value of hard work. I have been an officer since eighth grade, and that leadership experience pushed me to be the best I could be every single year because our members depended on our team and me.
How do you intend to stay involved in agriculture after your FFA career? After high school, I am attending South Dakota State University and majoring in agronomy with an emphasis in genetics and minoring in precision agriculture and farm business management. I am aiming to become a seed geneticist to breed the next generation of seeds for farmers.
What are you involved in outside of FFA? I am involved in volleyball, theatre, golf, National Honor Society, 4-H, student leadership team, band, choir and robotics.
What is something people need to know about agriculture? I think it is really important that people know that the agricultural world is not just for men. I have been treated very differently from my male counterparts when I am working, and I think that is an idea that needs to be changed in this day and age.
